Moirang

Moirang is a small town 45 km from Imphal. During World War II, Moirang was the headquarters of Azad Hind Fauz or the Indian National Army (INA) of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Col Shaukat Malik of INA hoisted the Indian Tricolour flag for the first time on Indian soil at Moirang on 14 April 1944. Thus, Moirang is a pilgrimage for every Indian citizen who reveres Netaji’s fight against British imperialism and free India from its clutches.

In the memory of the valour of Netaji’s troops, Moirang now has an INA Museum displaying several wartime relics, photographs, letters, badges of ranks and other articles associated with the INA. A bronze statue of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose in uniform stands in the lawn.
