Mawlynnong village

Mawlynnong is the cleanest village in Asia. It achieved the feat through a community initiative wherein they banned smoking and the use of polythene. It is mandatory for all residents to participate in cleaning up the village and harvest rainwater.

The waste is collected in dustbins made of bamboo and is directed to a pit for use as  manure that helps growing organic vegetables. Mawlynnong is situated about 90-km from Shillong along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Global Connection Siliguri will pick the best lodging for you to detoxify your soul in Asia’s cleanest hamelt.

Living Root Bridges

Living root bridges are formed by guiding the pliable roots of the rubber fig trees across a stream or river and then allowing the roots to grow and strengthen over time so to allow humans to pass through it like a regular bridge made of bricks, metal, or wood.  At Riwai close to Mawlynnong is where lies the famous living root bridges of Meghalaya.

The living root bridges have been handmade by the local people. One can now walk through the bridges that are nothing but green roots that are still growing.
