Mirik is a small hill town in the Kurseong sub division of the Darjeeling District. Mirik is about 52 Km from Siliguri and around 49 Km from Darjeeling. If you are going to Darjeeling via Mirik, it is almost halfway. Between journeys to Darjeeling, Mirik is a good stop over. You can relax here & spend some time or enjoy in the boat riding in Lake Sumedu.
Average altitude of Mirik about 5,000 ft, due to its altitude throughout the year you can pleasure in pleasant weather. Mirik’s in the winter not so cool, as well as in the summer not so hot.
The main attraction of Mirik is Lake Sumendu, 1.5 km long beautiful lake, covered one side with Pine Tree (Locally called as Dhupi) & beautiful garden on the other side. In the clear sky you can enjoy the panoramic view of Mt.Kanchanjungha with full range in the horizon. Boating, Pony rides also available surrounding the lake. One Foot Bridge is connected both the bank.
Journey to Mirik from Siliguri, most of the time you can passing through the tea garden. You can take photograph, or observe lush green Tea Garden from the view point. From view point you can enjoy Sunset, Sunrise & the valley of Tea Garden.
Rameetay Dara is a hill that offers beautiful views of the snow covered mountains and the plains of Mirik.
Deosi Dara , situated at an altitude of 1768 m above the sea level, ovserve picturesque views of the adjacent plains, peaks and hills and peaks located close to Mirik.
The Bokar Ngedon Chokhor Ling Monastery is one of the prominent Buddhist centres in the region. The monastery is home to around 500 monks who participate in practicing and sustaining the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. It also serves as a school teaching the principles of Buddhism.
Devi-Sthan is a temple located on the banks of the lake surrounded by Pine (Dhupi) tree and is dedicated to Goddess Singha Devi. The temples of Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali are some of the attractions located on the banks of the lake.
