Kalimpong is a sub divisional Town situated in the district of Darjeeling in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located 80 Km from Siliguri at an elevation of 4,100 ft and geographically located at 27.06° N 88.47° E. Before China’s annexation of Tibet, Kalimpong was gateway in the trade between India & Tibet.
The climatic condition of Kalimpong is very comfortable, between 15°C to 25°C in summer & 7°C to 15°C in winter. One can enjoy the spectacular view of Mount Kanchenjungha from Kalimpong. It is mostly popular for Flower Export, mainly orchid, gladioli.
Acacia, Cinnamon, Ficus, Bamboo, cacti, Cardamom, pine trees, oak, birch, maple, alder and other evergreen alpine vegetation are the main Flora of this region. Mammals includes Red Panda, goral, gaur, Himalayan Black Bear, Clouded Leopard, Siberian Weasel, Asiatic black bear, barking deer, Himalayan Tahr and pangolin, etc the main fauna of this region.
Kalimpong is popular for Paragliding, Trekking & Rafting like adventure sports.
Places of Interest:
Dello is the highest point in Kalimpong Town. From Dello, you can see, magnificent view of Kalimpong Town, Relli valley, Mount Kanchangungha & beautiful Teesta River.
Statue of Lord Hanuman, approximately 25-30 feet & located in a hill top. From this area fantastic view of both side hills are seen. One small temple of Goddes Durga is found near the Hanuman Tok.
Zang Dhok Palri Phodang :
The Monastery is situated in the Durpin Hill and also known as Durpin Monastery. In 1976, His Holiness Dalai Lama consecrated to this monastery.
Mangal Dham is a memorial built in the divine memory of Guru Mangaldasji Maharaj. He dedicated his life for innocent & needy.
Pine View Nursery:
This Nursery is situated in the outskirt of the town. Mainly known as a Cactus Nursery, near about 1500 variety of cacti is available.
